Kittiwake - Mrs Rice-Lang
What a lovely experience it has been joining the team at Holly Meadows this week! I have received such a lovely welcome and the children in Darwin Class are delightful.
We have had a great first week diving into our topic ‘Pirates’, whilst getting to know one another. The topic will take us on a journey through the curriculum, learning skills in art; how to use maps, atlases and globes, using compass directions and devise simple maps in Geography; looking at the lives of significant individuals in the past in History; and learn about the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet in DT by comparing to the poor diet of pirates.
Just as a note of warning, we will have a Dress as a Pirate Day on Tuesday, 2nd May when all the children are welcome to come in their best pirate outfits. We will be problem solving ways to escape a treasure island!
In Maths over the next few weeks, we will be revising some parts of the curriculum that the children need more consolidation on and in English the children will be learning how to write both non fiction and fiction pieces about Pirates.
PE will be held on Monday afternoons and Friday afternoons, so please ensure kits are at school and all items are named.
Spellings will continue to be given and tested on a Friday. Your help in supporting children learn their spellings and listening to them read on a regular basis (preferably every evening for 10 mins) is greatly appreciated and will really aid your child in their learning journey.
Please feel free to come and see me with concerns or worries you may have at the end of the day. I would be delighted if you would come and introduce yourselves to me as well, so I can link children to their parents. It will be lovely to meet you.
