Kittiwake - Mrs Rice-Lang
The school is looking at Treasure as its theme and Kittiwakes are going to be focusing on the characteristics of a good explorer, likening this to a good learner: curiosity, perseverance, courage, asking questions, being self-aware… Can you think of any more? We will learn the difference between a manmade and a physical feature and find out what a Rutter is!
Adventure stories we will be drawing inspiration from are ‘Up’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ We will be learning to write character descriptions, thinking deeply about perspective and opinion, learning about story boards, incorporating drama to enable us to engage more in our writing. We will also be introducing cursive writing as well as a range of punctuation to make a successful sentence to write a statement, question or exclamation.
New spellings will be given out on a Friday to practise and learn. Although it will not be called a formal spelling test, children will have the opportunity to show us what spellings they have learnt every Friday as well as dictation using our spellings in sentence construction.
We will be looking at adventure stories this term. Please can your child bring their reading book to school every day. They will be given the opportunity to change it weekly, should they need a new book sooner please remind them to let us know.
Autumn Term will see Kittiwakes introduced to the topics multiplication , measurement and place value. We will also be looking deeper into addition, subtraction.
In Maths Kittiwakes will be covering a wide range of topics each term in order to reinforce our skills of problem solving with addition, subtraction, multiplication and place value. Each term we will consider each topic at a deeper level as we grow and develop throughout the year.
