What is happening under the sea?
I can’t believe how quickly we have come to the Summer term already. Our new enquiry question will encourage children to discover all about our wonderful and amazing oceans, what we might discover in them, myths and legends that surround them and how human impact is having a detrimental effect on ocean habitats. I am focusing on the school value ‘Curiosity’, encouraging children to wonder at our world and ask deep and meaningful questions. I hope to do a sea based trip in June, as well as our trip to Norwich to join The Big Sing event, which will be very exciting.
Of course, we cannot forget that in Year 2 we have to focus on the SATs which will happen later on in May. I will endeavour to make this as normal as possible for children, so that there is no fear or anxiety surrounding them. Please be aware that the SATs are only part of the assessment process in Key Stage 1 and all that the children have been accomplishing during the year will go towards my overall teacher assessment. Therefore, a child’s results are not totally dependent on their scores in the SATs tests, which is only a snapshot of what they can do on a particular day at a particular time, and is not always an accurate picture (for instance if a child is not feeling very well or gets incredibly nervous during an test).
Much of our learning this term will be revising and consolidating previous learning, so that they are in a confident place to complete the tests themselves. I have put together a letter, which you will receive shortly, advising about assisting children with calculations at home.
