PE Premium Report

PE Premium Report 2015-2016

At Holly Meadows School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sports Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

Possible uses of the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits

Holly Meadows School used the £8,554 funding for 2015- 2016 in the following ways:

  • Subscription to the West Norfolk School Sport Partnership to enable high level engagement in sporting activities and competition in the Western Area up to county level.
  • Providing transport to and from sporting competitions.
  • Employing a PE subject leader to oversee the PE curriculum, deliver PE lessons and oversee the provision we offer through after school clubs. Our Subject Leader also supports the development of teaching across the school through assistance with planning and delivery of the PE, quality assessment and advice on areas for development.
  • To enable the Subject Leader to complete professional development training including the Level 5 Certificate in Primary PE Specialism.

The impact of this funding

  • The school has been recognised for its high level of engagement in PE competitive and sporting activities and have now achieved Gold Standard PE Kite Mark Award.
  • The HLTA with NPECTs training is leading PE across the school and advising staff on how to raise their quality of teaching.
  • Children who have accessed this provision provided by the sports funding are more knowledgeable and confident.
  • Following a survey of the children’s preferences on clubs they would like to attend, sporting clubs have been run at some point for a half term (minimum) archery, dodge ball, dance, football, multi-sports, cross country running and cycling.
  • Pupils from 4-11 years have developed their cycling skills and participated competitions. The PE subject leader has completed ‘Go-Ride’ and Balanceability cycle training.
  • Monitoring by the Governor with Special responsibility for PE (and is Chair of the Finance Committee) has been undertaken a meeting with the Subject Leader with the HT present; he is satisfied that there is impact from the work of the SL for PE and the involvement of the children.

Parents feel that we provide a broad range of sporting activities and the school has been recognised by the LA as being successful in engaging a high proportion of children in sporting activities over the year, many competitively.
