Below is a letter from Mrs Williams:
Dear Parents and Carers,
Over the past half term, many discussions, assessments and reviews have been made and the Leadership Team has agreed with the Governors to act on its findings and reorganise the classes in order to ensure that the most appropriate teaching and learning is possible. We have some impending staffing changes to notify you about too, which have added to the decision making. We are confident that this is the right step to take at this stage of the year.
From Monday 3 November, this will be a Year 3 Class with all the Year 3 pupils remaining in the class together. Miss Ecclestone, Mrs Lomas and I will be continuing in Aldrin this term.
After Christmas, a new appointment has been made, a male teacher who will be joining the school to be Aldrin Class’ Teacher. We are unable to name him at present as his current school needs to notify their parents first. We will let you know as soon as possible.
This will be Year 4/5 class with all Year 4 pupils regrouped into one class with fewer Year 5s remaining with them. Miss Henson has had to leave the school and she has been replaced by Mrs Wilkinson (a supply teacher) in Barbosa with effect from Monday 3 November 2014. However, after Christmas, another new appointment has been made and a second male teacher will be joining the school to be Barbosa class’ teacher. Again, I am unable to name him at present as his current school needs to notify their parents first. We will let you know soon.
This will be a Year 5/6 Class with all Year 6s and most Year 5s regrouped into one class.
Mrs Wildsmith-Garton will continue to teach this class for the whole of this year. There has already been some regrouping of pupils for Maths during the past half term, so this will not be entirely new for some of the children in Year 5 and 6.
The Year 1 / 2 children already in Darwin will remain in this class until July 2015.
The changes in Darwin Class come with the staff in January 2015, as both Mrs Newman and Mrs Ketley will be leaving the school; Mrs Newman because she has landed her “childhood dream” job at Gaywood Community Primary School and Mrs Ketley as she is going to take time to allow her back to repair effectively before taking up any further posts. We only found out this information on Thursday and so we have not been able to appoint a new teacher as yet for January 2015; Miss Linda Ecclestone will take over until we have a permanent member of staff to take on this class.
The children currently in this class will remain there for this academic year with Mrs Williamson leading her teaching team with Mrs Riviere.
We are aware that you were not given any notice of these changes; we were not able to notify you earlier as we only made the new appointments on Friday (during the INSET day) when you were already on holiday. We wanted to ensure that we could give you a clear statement about the changes once we had all the information.
Your child will bring home a note from me, clearly stating which class they are in and who their teacher is. I am sure you will understand that we have not taken this decision lightly; we are confident that these adjustments will give the children the best outcomes and that we have the children’s best interests at heart.
We will be holding a special Key Stage 2 assembly for the children in Aldrin, Barbosa and Columbus classes on Monday morning to talk to them about the changes. I will also be holding an additional Coffee with the Head session on Monday at 2.40pm and again at 5.30pm (for 30minutes) to ensure that parents have had an opportunity to ask any questions. We are expecting to move into a period of calmness and stability with no further changes to the teaching team or class bases for pupils for this academic year after the start of the January 2015 term.
